Water Salinity

Tool Description

The Water Salinity Calculator will allow you to enter your water salinity reading (also known as electrical conductivity of a sample – EC) and convert between different units of measurements. Select the unit of measurement depending on your instrument or lab results. The calculator with then automatically convert into TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) and then display your reading against the current Animal Drinking Water Safety Levels (Recommended Upper Levels). Water salinity can be measured in the following main units depending on the instrument or lab:

  • mS/m (MilliSiemens per metre)
  • mS/cm (MilliSiemens per centimetre)
  • dS/m (DeciSiemens per metre)
  • uS/cm (MicroSiemens per centimetre)
  • TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)

The temperature of water also affects its EC. In Australia, the standard temperature for reporting EC is 25°C. If the EC is measured at any other temperature, adjust the reading to EC at 25°C if the EC meter does not do this automatically.
