Soil Salinity

Tool Description

The Soil Salinity Calculator will allow you to enter your soil salinity reading (also known as electrical conductivity of a sample – EC) and convert between different units of measurements. Select the unit of measurement depending on your instrument or lab results. Next select the soil texture and waterlogging potential of the site. To allow for the soil texture difference the calculator will convert from an EC1:5 to ECe mS/m unit reading. Don’t know what the field means? click on the (insert i button symbol) to see the full explanation.

The calculator will then assign a Salinity Class to your reading, show what indicator species could be currently present on the site and then suggested crop and/or pasture species that may be suitable to establish on a site within the salinity class. If you’d like to find out more about these species, click on the individual species and the calculator will redirected you to the SALTdeck.
